What Design Can Do (WDCD)
Initiated by Dutch design agency De Designpolitie in 2011, What Design Can Do (WDCD) is an international annual event dedicated to give visibility to the problem-solving capacity of design. WDCD's program is made of many bright speakers from different disciplines –from designers to scientists or politicians– inspiring workshops and a design challenge around pressing issues such as the refugee crisis or climate change.
The visual identity and communication campaigns of What Design Can Do are all about the activist attitude design can have. Rather than aiming for aesthetics, the event and its identity are a call for action, an urgent message for designers to get hands on and use their creative power to improve the world around us. This message is sent through shouty colors, bold statements and some brush strokes.
