Nederlands Theater Festival 2023

Nederlands Theater Festival is the biggest celebration of Dutch and Flemish theatre in the Netherlands, lasting for eleven days and offering an extensive program for the general public, youth and professionals.

Every year since 2018, we revisit the visual identity and campaign concept that we designed back then, giving it a fresh twist that brings excitement around the revealing of the festival program.

The campaign design in 2023 is inspired by the darkness and mystery of the theatre room, as well as the monumentality of the performances. In the visual translation of these elements, different themes are presented in animations that sometimes reveal readable words, and sometimes create mesmerising background patterns that move behind practical information.

Nederlands Theater Festival takes place in multiple theatre venues in Amsterdam, and their program includes live performances as well as in-depth events such as workshops and talks for industry professionals. For this extensive program, What The Studio designs screen stage visuals, flags and banners, publications for social media, dressing for the venues, advertisements on printed and digital media, and freshens up the festival website.
